How to Choose a Roofer

Ask some questions!

Roofing is an important investment. A qualified roofing contractor does professional work that adds value to your home or business. These tips will help you protect your investment when hiring a roofer.

1. How much experience does the roofer have and with what roofing materials?

Experience matters. Make sure your roofing contractor has plenty of experience with your type of roofing.

2. Is the roofer licensed, bonded, and insured?

A reliable contractor will have all required certifications. (Note that these requirements vary from one location to another.)

3. Ask for referrals.

Ask to see some previous work the roofer has done. Also ask for a list of previous customers you can contact for references.

4. Use online tools to assess the roofing contractor's credibility.

Check sites like the Better Business Bureau and look at online reviews. Why Choose Raymond Hardin Roofing

5. Avoid high-pressure sales, especially for repairs after storm damage.

Unfortunately, some people try to take advantage of bad situations. If your roof has been damaged, you will be eager to get it repaired. But please be careful. Don't sign a contract or make a payment to anyone who shows up promising to fix your roof until you do some careful research. A wiser approach is to find a well-known, reputable roofing contractor.

6. Is the roofer knowledgeable about materials and warranties?

You have a lot of roofing options. Your roofer should be able to explain the pros and cons of various materials and to answer your questions so you can make an informed choice. Manufacturer warranties can be complicated. Your roofer should be able to give you an overview of what the warranties mean. The roofer's workmanship should also be warrantied.

7. Compare value and price.

Price matters, but the lowest price may not always be the best deal. Shoddy work from an inexperienced roofer may be cheaper up front, but it may cost you much more over time. Weigh all the facts. Then choose a roofing contractor whose experience and reputation give you confidence that you will receive quality work at a fair price.
